Description
Join me on this live-streamed, interactive Online Experience to explore Cartagena, one of the most historically and culturally rich tourist destinations in Colombia.
We will begin our tour from Camellón de Los Mártires, where I will introduce you to the geographical reason why the Spanish conquistadores chose this spot as the safe box for their treasures. This place will also allow us a view of the new 4 Seasons Hotel, the Convention Center, and the La Bodeguita dock at the inlet or Caleta of the Cartagena bay.
Then, we will make our way through the Torre del Reloj and enter the walls of the most desired port city of the Caribbean sea, dating back to the colonial days. We will visit the Plaza de los Coches, where I will tell you about the foundation of Cartagena. You will also learn about the story of the city's founder and an indigenous girl named Catalina, and why she was fundamental for the peaceful settlement of the Spanish in the territory of the Calamary.
After this dose of history, I will take you to see the famous Portál de Los Dulces, where you will get to see the local sweet treats that have been offered in this place since the 19th century. We will continue our walk into the magnificent Plaza de la Aduana, where the riches of Spain are represented in gold, silver, emeralds, pearls, and fruits. Aside from beautiful architecture, this spot will allow you to gaze deep into the local culture and history. Making our way to Plaza de San Pedro, we will learn about San Pedro Cláver, a Jesuit priest who dedicated his life to be "the slave of the slaves". At Portál de Los Escribanos, we will get to know about Colombian beauty queens.
We will start the next leg of our tour with a visit to the Parque Bolívar, and admire the most important statue in Cartagena: one of the "Libertador" Simón Bolívar, the father of the nation. At the Palacio de La Inquisición, we will learn more about the institution of the Catholic Church and how it worked like a secret police for the Pope and the Vatican. I will then walk you through the beautiful cobbled streets of the town to visit the Plaza de Santo Domingo, where you will see Gertrudis, also known as La Gorda de Botero.
To end our tour, we will go back to the walls of Cartagena and climb to the stronghold of Santo Domingo - it is only fitting that you get to say goodbye to the city with a magnificent view!
