Description

Ferrara is the ‘unexpected city’: less famous than Bologna, Modena, Parma and other cities of northern Italy, but with hidden beauty that is bound to leave you astonished. In 1995, UNESCO recognized Ferrara as the first modern city in the world for its perfect town plan, which dates back to the Renaissance period!

In this Online Experience, we will walk through the city alleys, starting from the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a beautiful Renaissance masterpiece. We will admire Quadrivio Degli Angeli (The Angels’ crossroad), a palace with a façade covered by 8000 marble ashlars in a pyramid shape that is located at the center of the most important crossroad of Ferrara.
Later, leaving the 16th century behind us, we will move towards the Middle Ages and make our way to one of Ferrara's best-known monuments: the Este Family Castle, with moat and towers dating back to 1385. These have been renewed over the centuries as a court residences with marble balconies, a terrace, and a beautiful courtyard.
Not far away from this castle, there is the 12th-century cathedral complex for us to explore. The ground level of the cathedral's south side faces the town square, Piazza Trento e Trieste. It is occupied by the unique Loggia dei Merciai (Merchants’ Loggia) with medieval shops that we will get to browse through. We will also pass by the narrow streets and alleys of the Ancient Jewish Ghetto, a historic city area.
Finally, we will make our way around Ferrara's city walls, the perfect point to end the tour and beloved by citizens for its magical atmosphere.

Meet your Host
Margherita Cavallari

I grew up in northern Italy between the two beautiful cities of Ferrara and Bologna, where I got a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Languages. In 2016, I decided to become a tourist guide and in 2019 a tour leader. The more I work, the more I like this job, it gives me the opportunity to meet different people and at the same time, show them the beauty, the art, the culture, the legends, the unusual paths and the atmosphere of cities where I grew. I look forward to meeting you!
