Description
On this real-time streaming Online Experience, I will take you to the Old Town of Tallinn, a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the best-preserved Medieval towns in Europe, Tallinn once had the largest and strongest defence systems in Northern Europe, parts of which you can see even today.
We will begin our virtual tour at the site that used to be a stronghold of warrior monks from the 13th and 14th centuries, has been the center of power for more than 800 years, and is now home to our parliament. According to legend, the stronghold sits on a hill that is the burial mound of a giant hero called Kalev and forms the upper part of the old town. Making our way up the hill, we will visit this area - which once served as the residence of German nobles for many centuries - and see the city palace of the nobles, a house owned by our first president, the oldest schoolhouse in Tallinn, and the oldest church in mainland Estonia: the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church. We will also enjoy a magnificent view of the new city from the three viewing platforms in the vicinity.
Continuing down to the lower town, we will see a medieval town wall and some of its towers. As we explore gothic-style dwellings from the 15th century and old churches from the 13th century, I will point to the places that housed artists and merchants.
Join me on this tour; together, we will explore all that makes Tallinn such a unique experience.

I live in Estonia near Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. I am a certified tour guide and I have been doing tours in Tallinn's old town and in its surroundings for six years to different travel agencies. I have had English-speaking groups from the US, India, Egypt, UK, Canada, and Australia. I have also worked as a birding guide, introducing guests to birds and their songs in Tallinn and in our countryside. Additionally, I am accredited to conduct Museum Tours.
I love nature, our old town and I am interested in our history. But I am also interested in world history and how people live in different places today. I will not only tell you facts about history and buildings but I will also tell you real-life stories, about interesting people who have lived in Tallinn and about life in Estonia today!
