Description
In this Online Experience, I will walk you through the conflict that defined the mid-20th Century, with Berlin at its centre - the Cold War. From the beginning of the Cold War in the post-World War II era all the way to the building of the Berlin Wall that divided the city for 28 years and beyond, you will gain a detailed understanding of how the East and the West clashed and how Berlin was a focal point between two very different ideologies - capitalism and communism.
I will guide you down the path of the Berlin Wall and tell you about how it was built literally overnight, as well as about some of the unbelievable and harrowing escapes people made. Hear stories such as how two families in East Berlin fashioned a hot air balloon out of their own clothing and flew over the wall to escape into West Berlin. Revel at how close the world came to being plunged into nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union when tanks were facing off against each other in the centre of Berlin.
Come and see the remnants of the wall itself, Checkpoint Charlie, where East and West crossed, the Trabi cars that were omnipresent on the roads of East Germany and much more! This tour is perfect for people of all ages interested in 20th-century history or just wanting to learn more about what life was like during the Cold War and on the eastern side of the Iron Curtain and the Soviet Union.

Incredible incredible tour!
I visited Berlin myself 6-7 years ago, and thought I had seen the main tourist sites myself, but wow, this tour provided me with even more / better insights to Berlin, and I learnt so much!
Chris was EXTREMELY informative, and it was evident that he knew a tremendous amount on European history + experience as a tour guide. He had images and interesting anecdotes all prepared and ready to share with us as we "walked" from landmark to landmark. It really made the tour come alive, though we were no where near Berlin / Germany or Europe, but in our own home in Singapore.
I took away so much from this tour, and is probably one of the most informative tours I have been on. Thank you so much for allowing us to explore cities beyond our own during periods we are unable to travel.

Thank you Chris for the wonderful tour! You have brought a lot of interesting knowledge about the Wolrd War and Cold War to us, and your level of enthusiasm really made the tour that much more entertaining and interesting!
Will definitely recommend him and also visit Berlin when I get the chance to!

Chris has a very engaging personality and even though this was a virtual tour, it really felt like you were pacing around Berlin on your own. Chris is also very knowledgeable about the history of Germany and actively brought out his humorous side to bring us on this virtual tour. It was a great end to a long work week so thank you Chris, thank you TourHQ!

This was an excellent virtual tour. At first when I heard that we would have a virtual tour, I actually thought that it would be boring or that it wouldn't be the same as being there. It isn't the same, it's a unique experience, with loads of information given from the tourist guide. I think I actually took over one page of A4 notes. I enjoyed the experience, and so did my friends. In the end we got to learn things which our History teachers don't teach us at school, so it was a great experience. I highly recommend this experience , and I would do it again!

I was tasked with arranging a virtual tour for a group of students who were meant to be in Berlin for a week but couldn't travel due to the pandemic. I was delighted to have found Tour HQ and Chris as it was just what I was looking for to give the students a taste of the city they should have been in. Chris was welcoming and professional and found a good balance between giving facinating facts and engaging with the students. I thought it was very clever how he seemlesly switched the camera from street views, to himself as well as adding really informative maps and diagrams to help explain parts of the tour. I felt like I had spent an hour in Berlin. Chris's enthusiasm for the city shone throughout the tour and has spiked my interest so I will go and look up further details on the information he gave us. Thank you for giving our group a fantastic hour in a city many of us were meant to be in this summer. I highly recommend Chris and Tour HQ, they took all of the worry out of organising this tour.

Chris was amazing! Super friendly and knowledgable. It was so nice to just have a virtual tour of somewhere that isn’t your home country in the current climate! I would highly recommend doing a tour with him. He took us through so many places, facts and figures in such a short amount of time.
