Description
The arrival of the Bourbon dynasty from France to Spain in the 18th century represented an important urban transformation in the city of Madrid, inspired by the trends of classicism and the enlightenment in contrast to the more sober style of the House of Austria. That meant the implementation of urban planning projects to improve the appearance of the city.
In this interactive online walking tour streamed live from Madrid, we will stroll through some of the main attractions of the city which represent the growth and development of the city and have contributed to its skyline, anticipating the designs of modern urban planners.
You will get to visit the iconic Metropolis building, next to Calle Alcalá street and the cosmopolitan Gran Vía Avenue. We will see the Baroque Church of San José and the Cervantes Institute with its impressive façade, followed by a visit to the Palacio de Buenavista building, also the current Army Headquarters. As we walk by the famous Bank of Spain building and the celebrated Cibeles Fountain, your guide will bring you up to speed about the interesting history of the Madrid Metro.A must see is the Palacio de Cibeles building (currently the City Hall), one of the most photographed spots in Madrid next to Paseo del Prado Boulevard. The tour will end at the monumental Puerta de Alcalá gate and the green oasis of the city, the Retiro Park.
