Gangaramaya is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Colombo, started by the famous scholar-monk Hikkaduwa Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera in the late 19th Century. The temple consists of several major Buddhist and Hindu attractions and is one of the major tourist destinations in Colombo. 

You will see the temple's main Buddha shrine room as you enter the temple premises. It has various kinds of Buddha statues and sculptures of religious and historical value. Then, you will visit two Hindu temples: one for Lord Vishnu and another for Lord Skandha, located within the Gangarama Temple Premises. 

After visiting the sites dedicated to these Hindu gods, you will see the sacred Boo Tree and Buddha’s relic chambers. These chambers contain different kinds of physical remains of people, preserved for veneration as tangible memorials. Along with these chambers, you will get to explore the Gangarama Temple Museum which contains historical donations from state heads and the general public. 

To end this virtual walking tour, you will go through Gangarama Temple Seema Malakaya. Located at the centre of the Beira lake, this site has a dreamy setting, and it would not be surprising that this surreal temple is primarily a place for meditation.
