Description
Visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre with me, a naturalist guide on this Online Experience.
We will start with a walk by the station, the first research facility on the Galapagos, to track ecosystems and the species' population. Then at the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre, we will learn about the National Park Rearing Program, which has been initiated to reintroduce populations of endangered tortoises in the wild. Here, you will see saddle-backed and domed-shaped tortoises and meet with babies, juveniles, and fully mature adults before they are released back into their natural surroundings. Throughout the tour, I will also provide some extremely interesting trivia about the tortoises, such as how many eggs they lay, how old they are, how heavy they get, and what role the temperature plays in determining their sex.

Meet your Host
Andres Cadena
I live on the Galapagos Island - Santa Cruz. I have been working in conservation and tourism for the last 20 years, exploring different regions of Ecuador and the Galapagos.
15 years ago, I settled on the island and went for a special wildlife training. I became a certified Naturalist Guide, learning all the pre-requisite skills for connecting travellers interests with this place I call home.
Guiding tours has given me the chance to continuously explore the islands, observe changes in ecosystems, indulge in animal interactions, and experience up close some of my favourite animal species - Galapagos Giant Tortoises.
