Description

Saqsayhuaman, a Temple dedicated to the Sun God Inti, is one of the most fabulous sites built by the Inca civilisation in the heart of the Andes mountains of Peru. Located right on the outskirts of Cusco City and at the top of a difficult mountain, this religious complex is full of superlatives. It features the largest and heaviest stone blocks moved by the Incas from a nearby stone quarry to the current location of the site. Thousands of builders worked here for a little under a century to achieve one of the most celebrated masterpieces of the Inca civilisation: a temple-like no other for extravagant ceremonies to please the Sun God.
In this Online Experience, we will enjoy panoramic views of Saqsayhuaman and admire its imposing stone architecture from up close. As we walk through the vast complex, I will share with you some fascinating details about the Inca religion and tell you the story of how elements from their architectural marvels ended up decorating the cathedral nearby. Together, we will explore the impressive doors and alleyways that date back to the heyday of the Inca civilisation and learn about the mysterious methods with which the workers transported the giant stone blocks used in their construction.

At the end of the tour, a fabulous view of the tiled roofs and colonial houses in Cusco city will await us. On a clear day, we may even be able to behold the snow-capped Mount Ausangate, which towers over Cusco at the height of 6,380 metres!
