In this live-streamed, interactive online experience, I will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Jantar Mantar in Jaipur, which is of historical and more importantly, scientific importance. This complex was the brain child of a pioneering Hindu king named Jai Singh, and will tell you stories of how his fascination with astronomy and astrology led to the creation of the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur and other cities in India.
For the scientifically curious, you will get the opportunity to see the world's biggest sundial and learn how horoscope predictions and calculation of the sun's altitude were made in the 18th Century. I will demonstrate how to calculate time using scientific instruments as well as tell the difference between Jaipur Local Time and Indian Standard Time amongst other amazing advancements in that time.
