Jagiellonian University

My name is Jan. I came to Cracow, the heart of Poland, 12 years ago to study international relations and philosophy in the oldest Polish university — the Jagiellonian. My life in this exceptional city had a lot of unexpected turns. I almost became a drilling engineer, but ultimately my love for philosophy, history, Kraków and people prevailed. I decided to join the ranks of people crazy and passionate about Cracow and spend my days sharing what I find most valuable in the history and culture of Poland, Cracow, the Jagiellonian

Description

We will begin this interactive, live-streamed online campus tour from the Main Market Square, right in Cracow's Old Town. Many faculties of Jagiellonian University are located here. We will then walk down Szewska Street; with its many clubs it is the main party street in Cracow. I will give you insights about the other off-beat places where students and locals go out.

We will then proceed to the Collegium Maius (the Mayor College). It is the oldest building of the university, and is nowadays used as a museum for special events. In this special surrounding, you will learn a little about the history of the Jagiellonian and see its treasures and most beautiful assembly halls. Get to know about the "most famous" student of the Jagiellonian.

The Collegium Novum and Planty Park is a great place to chill and spend time with new friends. Here, you will see The Rectorate, the International Students' Office and hear about the sequence of events during World War II at the Jagiellonian. Take a short walk around Planty Park, green belt around the entire Cracow's Old Town, and a great place to chill and spend time with new friends. I will point out some classy hidden cafeterias and the Stary Port at the Old Harbour, a popular sailor's climate students' pub.

As we stroll down Krupnicza Street, the arterial street connecting a lot of Cracow's universities and the Old Town, you will see milk bars. These are typical places for tasty, good quality, cheap Polish food, and immensely popular amongst students, professors, as well as vagabonds. Besides this, we will also see the Maximum Auditorium, an assembly hall for huge groups.

We will finish our tour around the University neighbourhood, which has buildings of 4 totally different universities located in the same place, namely Jagiellonian University, University of Science and Technology (AGH), Agriculture University and Pedagogical University. You will also see some popular spots like the Jagiellonian Library, students' clubs (Żaczek and Rotunda) and the beautiful Jordan Park, one of the best places to be on a sunny day!
