Description

This tour will take you along a meandering creek (a small river to us Aussies) through the World Heritage-listed Australian Wet Tropics to search for the elusive Platypus!

We are located in the Tropical Far North of Queensland, a famous region for the Great Barrier Reef. But, It is also home to the worlds oldest continually surviving Tropical Rainforest. The forest is home to most of Australia's unique creatures and plants. Every visit fills you with amazement because of the wide variety of life all around you.
The closest city for us is Cairns which is within easy reach of our destination, the small pioneer village of Yungaburra. Here, the rivers run freely and are full of life, especially Platypus. The Platypus is a seldom-seen creature for most Australians, but we are so lucky to have a very healthy population, and so we get regular sightings on our tours.
We often encounter a variety of other animals along the river in the forest, so you might get lucky and see other rare creatures like the Tree Kangaroo! Yes, we even have roo's that climb trees! By the time we complete the tour, you will be able to truly appreciate the beauty and significance of Australia's Wet Tropics and the incredible and unique creatures and plants that live here.

I am a passionate wildlife guide and conservationist who has spent 22 years in this region, particularly observing the Platypus for the last eight years. Along with my extensive knowledge of flora and fauna of Australia’s Tropical Rainforests, I have also spent ten years underwater on the Great Barrier Reef. This is the only place in the world where two World Heritage National Parks are next to each other - the Australian Wet Tropics and the GBR, and I got the opportunity to work in both of them! My tours have an enviable success rate of 90%+ platypus sightings.

We had an awesome time searching for platypus! (And it was so exciting when we found one!) Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and he took time to answer all our questions. The camera he used gave us great close-up looks. Would definitely recommend to all nature lovers :)
