Description
This online experience will take you to the Aladzha (which means colourful in Turkish) Monastery, one of Bulgaria's most significant and well-preserved rocky monasteries. This abandoned monastery is carved in limestone cliffs in the woods next to Varna, Bulgaria's third-largest city. Built in the 4th Century, the monks used the monastery when Bulgaria followed orthodox Christianity. However, the monastery was abandoned in the late 14th Century when Bulgaria came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. You will learn about the history of this magical place and interesting stories and legends as well.
Inside the monastery is a cave church and a chapel, which we will see from afar. Wherever possible, I will help you admire the incredible views from the top of the cliffs. Later, you will visit a museum inside the complex that showcases the life and times of monks who once resided in the monastery.
