Caesarea was one of the most significant Roman cities outside of Rome in the early years of the Roman Empire. The city was founded in the 1st century BCE by Herod the Great; its full name was Caesarea Maritima. Herod defied nature by building the biggest man-made port of his time, which also redefined the scale of commerce in the region. Caesarea was one of the most important Christian centres in the Middle East.
In this interactive online experience streamed live from Israel, we will visit the Roman ruins at Caesarea National Park, where you will see a theatre, a Herodian Palace built on a cliff above the sea, the "Hippo-stadium", a large bathhouse complex, a crusaders' era moat and gates, and an elevated hill (Temenos) which once consisted of a temple, a mosque, a church and a cathedral.
