Description
This online experience will take you to the archaeological site of Tahai, located on the coast of Hanga Roa in Easter Island. You will see the famous Moai statues on Ahu (ceremonial platforms), caves, ancient houses, and classical Rapa Nui architecture. This tour will cover the most important elements that represent the local culture. The important sites you will see include:
- Rapa Nui National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Hare Moa - ancient chicken houses
- Hare Ma’ea - a modern stone house representation of ancient Rapa Nui architecture built in front of a cave
- Hare Paenga - the original houses you find in all settlements on the Island, famously known as ‘boathouse’
- Dr William Mulloy’s final resting place, the tomb of the famous American archaeologist who restored the site
You will also see the three Ahus: Ahu Vai Uri, with 5 statues that belong to different historical periods, and Ahu Tahai and Ahu Ko Te Riku, with one statue each, along with two broken statues close to Ahu Vai Uri that, belongs to this complex. During the experience, you will get answers to some of the most interesting trivia questions, like when this site was restored, how many statues are there in the complex, and the ideal time to visit Tahai.

I have been an active tour guide for the last 4 years and have been associated with the tourism industry my whole life. I hail from a traditional family considered to be at the centre of the original Rapa Nui traditions and ancient knowledge in modern times. We are descendants of the first ruler of our culture, king Hotu Matu’a; he lived 33 generations before mine.
I am also a professional audiovisual producer, and lead musician in a cultural music group called Puku Rangi Tea. We have represented our culture in different international music and art festivals.
