Description

The Greek city of Kalamata is best known for its dark juicy Kalamata olives, which have been cultivated in the region for thousands of years and are sold worldwide. It is also famous for its silk scarves and the Kalamatianos dance that has been handed down to us from our predecessors in the classical age. The modern city is a picturesque town, squeezed between the Mediterranean Sea and the Taygetus mountain range, which dominates its skyline.
In this Online Experience, we will explore together the old town of Kalamata, which is overlooked by an 800-year-old medieval castle. As we make our way around the town, you will get to see the Byzantine church of Saint Apostles and the Modern Greek church of Ypapanti. We will also visit the Monastery of the Nuns (Kalograion), where the famous silk scarves of Kalamata are produced.

Walking down the beautiful cobbled streets, I will show you the traditional architecture of the old town dominated by multicoloured buildings with many windows and balconies. I will also entertain you with information about the renowned olives and the other famous products of the city, as well as folk stories about fairies, goblins and ghosts.
