Description

A town that looks like a Spanish city, but not one, Arequipa, is located in southern Peru. Volcanoes surround the country's second-largest city and are famous for its white-coloured buildings, history and mouth-watering food.

In this Online Experience, you will see San Lazaro, one of the oldest neighbourhoods where the first Spanish arrived in the city. Walk through its narrow streets housing ashlar mansions, and head to the San Francis complex, whose huge contraforts showcase the adaptations made by the city to protect it against earthquakes and destruction. You will also visit the Plaza de Armas, the Main Plaza with its beautiful fountain and impressive buildings such as the City Hall, the Cathedral and "Iglesia de La Compañía", the latter church being the place where the Andean Baroque began, to influence the rest of South America!

Mauricio Gamboa Rondón

I am Mauricio Gamboa Rondón, 39 years old from Arequipa Peru. I studied in a Catholic school and came very close to being a priest, but instead have been a tour guide for about 15 years. I love my country, my culture and photography. More than a guide, I consider myself an ambassador of my hometown and my culture. I am always doing enjoyable tours of my guests and showing them the importance of the Andean cosmovision. I am ready to share a lot of knowledge about my hometown with you.
