A town that looks like a Spanish city, but not one, Arequipa, is located in southern Peru. Volcanoes surround the country's second-largest city and are famous for its white-coloured buildings, history and mouth-watering food.

Walk through its narrow streets housing ashlar mansions, and head to the San Francis complex, whose huge contraforts showcase the adaptations made by the city to protect it against earthquakes and destruction.
