Hugging its own mirror-like lake in the midst of the snow-mantled Nepalese Himalaya, Pokhara is a breathtaking affair. Temples and views abound, so be sure to get a tourHQ guide while in town.

There are few cities more dramatic or breath taking than the high-perched city of Pokhara. Nestled on the doorstep of some of Nepal’s highest peaks, in the deep valleys of the central Gandaki zone, the city is a patchwork of white-washed cottages and authentic temple architecture that clings to the rocky outcrops of the high Himalayas; a truly magnificent sight to behold.
Most visitors come here on their way through to the hiking routes of the Annapurna region, and where it’s possible to scale three of the country’s highest peaks (Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu). Others come to explore the rich natural wealth of green plateaus and water ways that characterises the Kaligandaki River Valley, one of the most accessible and encompassing tour routes in all of Nepal.
But, if you fancy a break from the ubiquitous Nepalese trek, ask your Pokhara guide for directions to the Shanti Stupa, a great place to catch the sunset over this lovely town. There’s paragliding or white water rafting for the adventure seekers; why not opt for a spot of sailing on Phewa Lake instead, or perhaps some subterranean exploration in the nearby complex of winding caves that carve their way deep into the Himalayan rises all around.
