But, those who do make the effort to cross to the capital from the airport on nearby Hulhumale, will be faced with a lively clean town sitting both geographically and figuratively at the very heart of this archipelago nation.
Start off by heading to one of the exhilarating fish markets, where it’s possible to sample some of the freshest fish on the islands, or the bazaar at Chandanee Magu to stock up on souvenirs made of local products of the region. Then, ask your Male tour guide to show you the local joints that cluster along the South West Harbour, or perhaps tick off the towering religious and historical sites that define the city’s skyline and downtown; the gold-domed Islamic Centre; the arabesque Friday Mosque; the sprawling Sultan Park.
