One of Sicily's more chic and popular resort towns, Taormina tumbles down to the turquoise bays of the Mediterranean in a medley of historic Roman relics and ancient streets. The pedestrianised Corso Umberto is its arterial street, peppered with bustling local cafes and connecting its best attractions; the crumbling Teatro Greco, the towering Duomo and its Piazza (of the Quattro Fontane fame), and the panoramic Piazza IX Aprile, the last being the go to place to people watch and enjoy panoramic vistas.
