The third largest city in the sprawling archipelago of islands that make up Indonesia, Bandung is the capital of the West Java province. Although similar to Jakarta in its quirky traces of Dutch rule, Bandung has its own identity, typified by its natural wonders and reputation for finery leading to its nickname "The Paris of Java".
Slightly cooler than many Indonesian cities, travellers flock to Bandung to escape the sweltering heat of the warmest months of the year and to take in the sights, many of which centre around Dutch colonial art deco architecture. Golf courses, Bandung Zoo and the many discount shopping outlets, make Bandung a favourite getaway. Locals welcome all of their visitors with warmth and hospitality but be sure to get a Bangung travel guide to make the most of the city. Bandung’s natural attractions also attract many visitors, such as Kawah Putih volcano lake and Tangkuban Prahu volcano crater, located to the north of the city.
