One could not ask for a better guide than Mari. She could draw on her vast knowledge to answer all our questions clearly with an articulate intelligence. During her evening lecture she showed slides to illustrated her own observations of unusual behavior of animals - she is a gifted teacher. Her enthusiasm for her work and passion for the Islands, the wildlife, and her country were obvious. Always patient, Mari kept us on schedule to make sure we enjoyed each day's agenda but never rushed us. She was able to see the humor in situations and enjoyed a good laugh. Mari is easy to admire and respect, she is cordial and helpful to all. She was eager that all 15 of us could see and understand and appreciate the evolution of the wildlife and the environment. 

Mari was the best guide that one could ask for. She first gave us an overview of what we were going to see, and then she was able to answer further questions from her deep knowledge. She was extremely friendly, but firm. She was very clear that she expected people to be on time. She also reminded everyone what shoes and equipment to bring on daily expeditions. As a result of Mari's leadership, our 15 group members were prompt and brought the right stuff for our mini trips. She was a great manager as well as exceptionally knowledgeable about everything to do with the Galapagos Islands. One could feel her deep devotion to Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, and her home city of  Guayaquil. She also had a fine sense of humor.

Mari was my group's guide in the Galápagos Islands Jan 28-Feb 4, 2017. She did the job to the fullest. Mari was knowledgeable and interesting and at the same time was fun and kind. We will miss her but have great memories.
