I had the pleasure of having Ray Haakonsen as a guide when I was visiting Cape Town with colleagues from work. Ray took us on two tours over a weekend. The first was a Cape Peninsula tour and the second was a safari outside Cape Town. Ray picked us up in the morning from the hotel and I knew within a few minutes that he was more than a tour guide. Not only was Ray knowledgeable about Cape Town locations and its history but he shared great stories about Africa and his many adventures. Ray was very personable and friendly. We were so comfortable with him that we invited him to share meals with us during our trip and were so happy we did. He has a passion for people, his country, and Africa. I highly recommend spending a day or two with Ray as you will not just meet a knowledgeable guide but you will meet someone who seems like an old friend.  

Ray was our guide for a group of Master Social Work students from the USA. I found him astute and very knowledgable about Cape Town and environs. In fact I learnt a great deal about my own city through his eyes and knowledge. He is respectful, fun loving, helpful, goes the extra mile and is friendly. I felt very secure in knowing that he knew what he was doing and where he was going at all times. He is a safe driver. He took time to plan the day well but was flexible with our needs and changes as they occurred.  

As a part of our tour we visited the townships of Khayalitsha and Mananenberg and found Ray to be suprisingly well informed about township life and South African history pertainig to these areas in Cape Town. This was a suprise to me as I have worked in these communities for many years as a social worker and have found that people are generally afraid to go there or are not fully informed about life in these suburbs of the city. Which is a real pity. Overall I would highly recommned Ray as a guide for any big or small group visiting our beautiful city. They will be inspired by and receive excellent service from Ray.

Ray took care of my friends and myself for 3 days. He was a fantastic guide and a wonderful human being.
