We only had one full day in the Johannesburg area and chose to take a tour with Tim Smith after reading reviews about him.  I am very glad we did, the day with Tim was the highlight of our trip to South Africa and Egypt.  

Many  guides say they are passionate about what they do but Tim truly lives his passion.  He is extremely knowledgeable about the animals, the environment and the culture around him.  Tim's number one concern is the satisfaction of the people he takes out and will go above and beyond to ensure that they have a great time.

Our experience with Tim was fantastic, highly recommend him for anyone going to South Africa. From planning (months before) to last minute changes (our flight got canceled and we had to make very last minute changes), Tim was just incredibly supportive. He adjusted our tour for our specific needs, making it memorable. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the South African history, culture, animals, geography, ways of leaving and overall life overall :) … knowledge shared with us throughout the day, keeping us entertained after we landed from a 11 hours flight. I had a wonderful day visiting Pilanesberg with Tim. He is a passionate and knowledgeable guide, who really cares about the animals and has a brilliant sense of humour to boot. We drove to the park in Tim's van from Johannesburg and spent about three or four hours on the safari. We had some very special, up-close encounters with elephants, a phoenix, giraffes, a family of cheetahs, zebras, a rhino, and many more. Tim arranged a lovely lunch at a nice cafe within the park, he made sure we always had water, and he also took lots of excellent photos with his professional camera, which he gave to us for free at the end of the trip. Overall, it was a truly unforgettable day and I would recommend Tim to anyone – he's a great guy and if I ever return to South Africa again I'll be sure to look him up.
