World War 1 Eye Opener

Reviewed May 8, 2019

This tour was exceptional for both those familiar with the conflict and those with a vague understanding. Cecil was very knowledgeable and could go deep into many areas.

The tour is non-stop but tailored to your interest and physical abilities. The trenches and monuments require some ability to manover. But it’s doable.

Cecil was spirited and engaging. Also fun to listen to his views on France’s culture and history.

We enjoyed the trip it exceeded our expectations.

Amazing Verdun experience

Reviewed April 22, 2019

Wow, there was so much to see and do around the Verdun battlefields.  I am so very glad we took the tour as we saw much more than we would have on our own and some of the sights wouldn't have been understandable without an experience guide.  I especially was fascinated by Vauquois  & would never have realized how much of the hillside was exploded from mines so that the hill was almost cut in half by the two sides digging through the hillside and emplacing bombs!

World War Battlefields/American Cemetery/Monuments

Reviewed January 16, 2019

My family of 4 (husband and 2 adult children) spent a cold December day w Cecil and I’m so glad we did.  He picked us up at the Meuse train stop and dropped us there  at the end of a busy day. We tramped around the site at Vauquois where soldiers on both sides camped in trenches for months.  We went to the German Cemetery; the  American Cemetery which had a very informative small museum; a Verdun fort site; the affecting Ossuary of Douaumont, and more.  We had a lovely lunch.  It simply would not have been possible to do this on our own in one day.   Cecil drove us on country roads,  to many small sites,  determined to show  us as much as possible, despite the weather.  He shared  his rich knowledge of battles, strategy, historical context, and impact of the war on French citizens. We enjoyed his company immensely.  It was a moving day for us and we will never forget our special Cecil.

Verdun, March through the trenches.

Cecil was a wonderful guide.  He took us to many different battle sites and put you in the shoes of the soldiers that fought in them.  He was informative, knowledgeable, entertaining, and went above and beyond the call of duty.

Passionate and Accommodating

Reviewed November 27, 2018

We spent a wonderful afternoon with Cecil touring WW I sites around Verdun.  Cecil has a great passion for these subjects - helping us relate to what is, honestly, unfamiliar to most Americans.  He has done great research (and is always doing more!) but makes it very accessible.  We were tight on time so he was thoughtful in meeting us at our first stop instead of in town, offering to pick up sandwiches for our 20-something boys (perfect timing!) and comminicating ajdustments and options as we moved around the sites.  Our family came away with a much deeper understanding of this conflict - from both a historical and personal perspective - and really just enjoyed our time wth Cecil.  We regularly do such private tours across cities or landscapes and it's not easy to make it work.  So, I can't say enough good things about Cecil as a tour guide!
