We went on a Grand Circle tour of Sicily in March, 2014. Marcello was our guide. I couldn't imagine a better guide. His knowledge of the history, culture, architecture, and language was encyclopedic. He seemed to know everything. But, in Europe, guides are expected to be very knowledgeable. What made Marcello stand out even more was his personality and warmth. He made the tour members (there were 27) feel like members of his family. In the midst of arranging all of the myriad daily details of the tours, he took the time to get to know each of us personally. He spiced up his dialogue with relevant incidents from his own life. And, on the long ride across southern Sicily to the eastern side of the island, he took us for a special stop to meet his family at their agricultural supply business. We met his Mom and brother, and shared some fresh, hand-squeezed blood orange juice. --Far above the call of duty! He was also very attentive to the inevitable individual health needs that seem to crop up on tours. One of the women on the tour sprained her ankle. Marcello saw to it that she didn't have to walk too far, providing additional transportation to get her to places that would otherwise have been difficult. This lady was also an avid shutter-bug. Marcello even took photos for her with her camera so her trip record would be complete! We think he's just a wonderful guide. He's literate, speaks multiple languages, and loves the culture and history of Sicily. Five Stars Plus!
Marcello was just the best!! He made us feel like family. His knowledge of Sicily 's history and unique customs was remarkable. He was always ready and willing to share another discovery with us. Marcello connects with everyone and goes the extra step to insure all your expectations are met. Patrick and I were so fortunate to have Marcello as our guide. Thank you Marcello for the best memories of Sicily.
Marcello is a very accommodating tour guide. He ensures that the needs of all travelers in the group are met. He carefully escorted the elder travelers in our group, as well as arranged for a variety of vegetarian meals as needed. Marcello is extremely knowledgeable about the sites we visited througout Sicily. He is friendly and personable.
Marcello went out of his way to arrange for my special request for a cooking lesson (NOT the standard pasta or pizza). I accidentally sprained my ankle, and again, Marcello made special car arrangements to spare me from having to walk long distances.
My wife and I have had over 40 trip leaders on our many travels and Marcello is right at the top. His knowledge, attentiveness, personality and love of his country makes the travel experience the very best. If we get the opertunity we will travel with Marcello again. Richard Gross
