Andreas has now led three 'fynbos walks' for the members of the Winelands chapter of Mensa South Africa - one every year for the past three years - and has always left our participants asking when we will be engaging with him again. This year was no exception - his knowledge of the flora, fauna, ecology and geology of the Western Cape is unparallelled, and his easy, relaxed presentation style and delightful sense of humour was enjoyed by all. This year we also took a few juniors (under 10 years) with us, and his patience with them was remarkable - he engaged at their level without detracting from the nature of the walk for the adults.Andreas undertakes regular excursions for both experienced and beginner hikers - this particular walk we did, the Klipspringer Trail in the Steenbras Nature Reserve, is highly suitable for even unfit persons - it's a 5km predominantly downhill amble, and Andreas takes care to adjust the pace to the slowest, most unfit member (me) of any group.I would not hesitate to recommend his guiding services to anyone visiting the Western Cape - or even those that reside in the area and are looking for something different to do.
