This a historical and cultural tour and the likelihood of seeing many animals is minimal, however the place is home to monkeys and baboons as well as small animals such as rodents, lizards, butterflies and birds. Its also home to a number of tree species. There is minimal hiking up the hill complex.

The Khami Ruins are a great represantation of the prominent stone building culture of the ancient Shona civilisation. The ruins are right at the doorstep of the Great City of Bulawayo. It is an exhibition of the architectural skill developed from Great Zimbabwe. I am passionate about sharing the history and culture of Khami because of its contribution to the civilisation of humankind and culture of modern day Zimbabwe. Such is its importance to world history that it has been declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Capital of the Shona Torwa Dynasty

An important early trade centre

Studies of the site have revealed the culture, trade and other socio-economic activities of the early Shona states

Architectural and layout Importance

The ruins are quite impressive and elaborate with studies linking them to the Shona stonebuilding culture of the Great Zimbabwe fame

The layout of the Capital is similar to Great Zimbabwe with a Royal enclosure and a Hill complex offering a beautiful view

Archaeological findings

A number of items of historical importance have been uncovered by Archaeologists such as ceramics, iron tools and glass beads

Conservation and Tourism

The Ruins were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986

There is a Museum full of antiques excavated from the Ruins which will be interpretted by the Tour Guide

Visitors can explore the Ruins and tourist facilities availlable such as picnic and camping areas
