Private Full-Day Stellenbosch Wine Tour
- 2 hours - Stellenbosch, Western Cape
- Stop at: Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Depart from Cape Town after picking you up from your hotel and head towards the east to the famous town of Stellenbosch, the second oldest European settlement after Cape Town. Predominantly an Afrikaans-speaking town boasting several significant Dutch architectural designs, museums, and a wide range of over 100 wine farms. In Stellenbosch, we will be visiting two vineyards for some wine tasting and cheese tastings. Afterwards, we'll participate in a cellar tour and continue the Cape Winelands tour with a self-walk through the streets of Stellenbosch, browsing through various boutiques.
- 2 hours - Spier Wine Farm, Annandale Road
- Stop at: The archetypal Stellenbosch wine farm, with age-old trees, sprawling vineyards, and a pretty river, focuses on ethical farming and creativity. There are six ranges, including organic, vegan, and Cap Classique. Enjoy one of three tastings in the Tasting Room beside the dam (under an iconic Heath Nash-designed wine-bottle chandelier or on the verandah), with platters or a chocolate pairing if you like. The Spier Hotel has a Wine Bar. For food, enjoy famous pastéis de nata and hearty meals at Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery; grab-and-go picnic fare at the Farm Café (or book a basket) and find a spot at the new riverside area surrounded by boulders and the Eerste River; à la carte seasonal dishes at the hotel restaurant. Until March 11, enjoy Friday’s live music and picnic Sunset Sessions on the Werf. Explore the farm on a segway or with four themed self-guided walks. Spier has one of the largest collections of contemporary art in SA.
- 2 hours - Hazendal Wine Estate
- Stop at: Hazendal Wine Estate, Bottelary Road, New entrance from Ronelle Street via Kruis Street, Stellenbosch 7599, South Africa. As one of the oldest estates in the Bottelary Hills, Hazendal boasts a long tradition of winemaking, crafting wines that truly express the coastal terroir of this unique corner of South Africa’s Winelands. Two ranges (Hazendal and Christoffel Hazenwinkel), including reds, whites, MCC, and a Spanish carignan. The plush Wine Lounge (in the old cellar) offers three tastings with cheese and charcuterie platters, or step it up a notch with a Sensory Pairing Experience in the Wine Library. For food, there’s comfort classics and picnic fare at Babushka Deli; flame-grilled favourites (and beer-glazed eisbein) at Pivnushka Beer Garden; the Tea Room in the manor house serves a fabulous one-of-a-kind high tea, and a three-course dinner at the monthly Jazz Club events.
- 2 hours - Haskell Vineyards
- Stop at: Haskell Vineyards, Annandale Rd Die Boord, Stellenbosch 7613 South Africa. A serene and beautiful place on the slopes of the Helderberg, this estate is all about harnessing nature’s bounty with care and respect. The wine features two small ranges (Haskell and Dombeya), with Shiraz being especially notable. There are two tasting options, plus a food-and-wine pairing (small bites from the current restaurant menu). A cheese and charcuterie platter is also available. For food, enjoy bold fusion flavours at Longtable Restaurant (with exquisite views); plus sourdough pizza and wine or a picnic on the lawns on weekends in summer.
