Mark R.Jones is an 8th generation native of South Carolina and the author of seven books about Charleston history and culture.As a licensed Charleston guide for fifteen years, he has conducted more than 10,000 tours covering the turbulent, fascinating and entertaining history of the #1 Tourist Destination in the United States! Mark's most recent book is Doin’ the Charleston: Black Roots of American Popular Music & the Jenkins Orphanage Legacy. Jones calls it “Charleston’s greatest untold story.” His first two books, Wicked Charleston: The Dark Side of the Holy City and Wicked Charleston, Vol.II: Prostitutes, Politics & Prohibition explore the darker side of Charleston, scandals, murder, and sin! He is also the author of two true crime collections of South Carolina – Palmetto Predators and South Carolina Killers. In the fall of 2015, Mark’s new book will be published by the East Atlantic Press, Charleston Firsts. He is the co-owner of BLACK CAT TOURS, a walking tour company which specializes in covering the other side of Charleston history – paranormal, crime and scandals.
