To get the authentic feel for the neighbourhood, this is a subway, taxi, walking and/or MTA bus tour that is limited to the first 8 people to sign up (exceptions can sometimes be made).
Your jazz guide will be checking around to put together the best tour (to 2 or 3 clubs) for each given night, based on the talent performing that night in Harlem's best clubs; among them are:
The renowned “Birthplace of Bebop.”
A members' only club that dates back to the ’20s.
A 1960's vintage dive bar.
A Hammond B3 organ lounge from the ’40s.
A soul food club or a greasy spoon w/ live jazz.
A swinging beatnik hang-out with a great vibe.
A speakeasy with roots going back to Prohibition.
We’ll see vocalists in the Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington tradition.
Serious soloists in the Sonny Rollins and Dizzy Gillespie tradition.
Neighbourhood spots that are so well hidden that even some neighbours haven’t spotted them yet.
