Transfer from Kampala to Mabamba swamp and Equator line
- After an early breakfast, our driver guide will pick you up and set off for an exciting day in Mabamba Swamp where you will come face to face with the rare shoebill. The journey takes about an hour by road via Nakawuka - Kasanje. The wetland is home to a variety of bird species and birding.
- On arrival at the swamp, you will join a local guide and on a wooden motorized boat, you will ride through the waterways to access different areas of the swamps while looking for the Shoebill, and other water birds while enjoying the panorama of the wetland outlay.
- The Mabamba swamp bay is a large wetland on the shores of Lake Victoria, covering 2424 hectares of papyrus, ferns, water lilies, and other grasses in the shallow waters.
- The wetland is a favourable habitat for a lot of water-endemic birds, with up to 260 species recorded, including annual migrants from Europe and other parts of the world.
- The Mabamba swamp is good for birding adventures, but also the most intriguing home for the Shoebill which is a rare sight to many birding enthusiasts.
- Other birds to see while visiting this swamp include the African jacana, purple heron, black kite, African fish eagle, pied and malachite kingfisher, yellow-billed duck, white-faced whistling duck, cattle egret, long-toed lapwing, spur-winged lapwing, papyrus gonolek, hammerkop, black-winged stilt, common and wood sandpiper among others.
- Later proceed with your drive to Kayabwe for the Equator Experiment. Here you will see where the Equator line crosses Uganda. Upon arrival, you will experience the fascinating water experiment that demonstrates the Coriolis Effect, stand on both hemispheres for unique photo opportunities, and explore local craft shops for souvenirs.
- After your Educational and memorable Equator Experience. Enjoy a nice, authentic Ugandan local meal at a local Restaurant. Later return to Kampala for a drop-off to your hotel.
