Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Departure
You will rise up very early, refresh, have a heavy breakfast, get your packed lunch and transfer to Kinigi Park quarters for registration and pre-gorilla trekking briefing. You will be served a hot cup of coffee while enjoying the traditional dances performed at the park headquarters. You will be grouped into 8 and given one gorilla family to visit. At 8:00 am, start the hike up and downhill in search of the allocated gorilla family. The trekking time range between 2 hours to over 6 hours, but you are 99% sure of meeting the gorillas. The hike through the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park also allows you to see numerous birds and other primates which dwell there. On meeting the gorillas, you will be allowed an hour with them! Embrace and enjoy the human-like characters of these endangered species, take as many pictures as possible and capture live moments of these apes. Volcanoes National Park is home to over 35% of the total gorilla population in the world. The park has 10 habituated gorilla families which guarantee the availability of 80 gorilla permits each day. Rwanda is home to the highest number of mountain gorillas in the Virunga conservation area. Also, Volcanoes Park is the most accessible gorilla national park in Africa, which makes it a premier gorilla safari destination, especially for short-time travellers.
