Description
Embark on this one-day trek through the Magamba Rainforest! Walk through traditional villages' farmlands. Learn the history of the Sambaa chief at Lumbago Loyal Village. Then, trek to the Magamba rain forest and enjoy the black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, velvet monkeys and two-horned chameleons on your trail. Also, enjoy the lovely view at Kugulu Hakwewa Peak and visit one of the German caves in the Usambara Mountains that was used in different ways during the Colonia period.

Magamba Rain Forest
- Walk uphill through traditional villages and farmlands and learn about the cultural life of the Shambaa and Kilindi ethnic groups. Interact with the local people and possibly get involved in some farming activities.
- Continue trekking to the Magamba rainforest and enjoy the two-horned chameleons on your trail. Along the way, learn about spiritual and medicinal herbs used in the everyday life of the traditional Shambaa, Mbugu, and Pare-speaking people.
- Venture into the thick rainforest of Magamba, home to different primates. Spend time watching the black and white colobus, velvet, and blue monkeys.
- Keep trekking to an old German trench and hear about its historical military use by German colonial soldiers.
- Enter the cave a few meters in and observe bats hanging on the trench wall while taking some pictures.
- Hike to the forest peak and enjoy the view of Lushoto town and the royal village.
Approximate trekking loop distance coverage: 12 km
Have your packed or picnic lunch at the same peak and return to town the same afternoon.
