Mwanza City Tour
After a heavy breakfast at a nice hotel in the heart of Mwanza City, you will be picked up by an experienced tour guide who will be waiting for you in the hotel parking, ready to take you around the city. In the morning, the tour will start with a 30-minutes drive to Bujora Sukuma Museum.
- Along the way, the guide will keep introducing the city's historical background while you are on your way to Bujora Sukuma Museum. At Bujora, you will get time to experience and learn the history, culture and traditions of the large tribe in Tanzania, "Wasukuma".
- After spending one good hour at Bujora, you will get back to proceed with the city tour.
- Along Musoma road, you will have time to visit the Mv Bukoba Grave Yard, where hundreds were buried after a heartbreaking steam ferry accident in Lake Victoria in 1996. A stop at this point will pave the way to learn a little history about the Arusha Declaration in Mwanza, where the late Mwl. Nyerere, the father of the nation, walked by foot from Butiama to Mwanza to implant his philosophy of socialism and self-reliance.
Come to the German Gallow Tree and the First Prison in Mwanza. Mwanza history is well connected with the German. At Mwanza Zero its where you will get time to explore and discover more about it, starting with the hanging tree, the court and the first prison built by Germans in Mwanza. Your guide will know more about hidden treasures in Mwanza.
The interesting liberation struggles of history gets you to the historical library, Ladha Meghji Indian Public Library. Most guests get shocked when they first heard about an association called the "Pan African Freedom Movement for East and Central Africa" (PAFMECA). The association was formed as a result of a two-day secret meeting held in this library in 1958.
Explore the Gunzert House, located at the Nyamagana Hill, built by the German in 1912. It was built purposely for German District Commissioner. The building was named after an outstanding German Governor "Gunzert".
- After having lunch at Kijiji Bar & Grill, visit the Samaki Monument Roundabout located at the city center, learn the history behind the monument, and take some good photos.
Admire the Bismarck Rock, the iconic symbol that represents the Mwanza Region. The geological formation and the story behind its name are always the exciting part. It's a nice place to see the sunset and taking memorable photos while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere from the great Lake Victoria.
Continue to the Saanane Island National Park, the smallest park in Tanzania and East Africa located at the city centre. After registration and clearance at Saa Nane's office, it will take us five minutes to the island by modern boat. The island provides an opportunity for walking safari, wildlife experience, picnic centres and finally to a place where makes the island more attractive, "Stone Jumping Point."
Check out the Rock City Shopping Mall. After a very long and fantastic tour, you will get time to get into Rocky City Mall, a place with supermarkets, Banks, Bureau de Change, shops, cinemas, boutiques, etc. The Mall provide a safe opportunity for shopping, financial transactions, and relaxation.
Head back to the hotel, where you will spend a few minutes with the guide and enjoy a farewell dinner.
