Itinerary
-
Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
After breakfast, depart from Arusha and head to the southeast entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, known as Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, check-in and registration mark the beginning of your Kilimanjaro ascent. The initial leg of this route guides you through the woods and the rainforest, offering sights of eucalyptus trees and various bird species. Look out for Colobus monkeys - they may be spotted with their distinctive black or white fur. Adequate equipment and footwear are essential as low altitudes often result in wet, muddy soil.
-
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Early morning, after breakfast at Mandara Hut, you'll explore the final section of woodland as the vast expanse of moorland unfolds before you. Enjoy the view of Mawenzi's jagged peaks reaching the African sky. Altitude sickness can manifest at these heights, so pay attention to your well-being and communicate any signs of illness to your guide. Upon reaching Horombo Huts, take time to settle in and relish the view of Kibo before dinner.
-
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Following breakfast at Horombo Hut, traverse diverse and stunning landscapes, progressing across the heath as it transitions into the arid, desolate highlands between Mawenzi and Kibo. This terrain is adorned with both large and small volcanic rocks, remnants of past volcanic activity. The final stretch to Kibo Huts is demanding and steep.
Arriving at Kibo Huts, prepare your equipment and warm clothing for the following day's journey to the summit. To prevent water from freezing, carry it in a thermos. Retire early since the next day's trek requires full energy; you are now gearing up for Kilimanjaro's ultimate challenge.
-
Day 4: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Awaken around midnight, enjoy a small meal, and embark on the nighttime hike. Many consider the challenging terrain, characterized by loose rocks, as the toughest part of the climb. The goal is to reach Gilman's Point by dawn to ensure you arrive at Uhuru, Kilimanjaro's highest point, shortly after sunrise. There will be a brief stop at Gilman's Point to relish the magnificent view before proceeding along the crater's edge to Uhuru. This marks the final ascent, featuring a steady incline. Depending on the timing of your journey, you may encounter snow on the path to Uhuru Peak, which stands at an altitude of 5,895 meters. Celebrate your achievement with breathtaking views and a photo at the Uhuru Peak Sign. The descent towards Kibo Huts goes by quickly. At Kibo Huts, take a break, enjoy a well-deserved lunch, and then continue to Horombo Huts for a restful night's sleep.
-
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Return to Moshi/Arusha
Descend through the rainforest to the Marangu Gate, where you'll have lunch and bid farewell to your mountain crew. Leave Mount Kilimanjaro National Park and return to Arusha/Moshi for a refreshing shower and a commemorative dinner.
-
Day 6: Arusha
Rest and immerse yourself in the atmosphere as you prepare for the upcoming Tanzanian safari.
-
Day 7: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, your driver will pick you up and drive you to Lake Manyara National Park. Upon arrival, you'll be able to view a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and more. The park also features a dense forest area inhabited by monkeys, bushbucks, and other species.
-
Day 8: Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park
Embark on a remarkable journey from Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park, traversing breathtaking landscapes. Lake Manyara National Park is known for its stunning scenery, tree-climbing lions, and diverse wildlife. Serengeti National Park, on the other hand, is renowned for its vast savannahs, iconic wildebeest migration, and the "Big Five" game animals. Serengeti National Park has various wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and more. The park is also famous for its annual wildebeest migration, where over a million animals move across the plains for food and water.
-
Day 9: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
Following breakfast, you'll ascend to Ngorongoro Crater. This area offers the opportunity to view an abundance of wildlife. Often referred to as the world's largest caldera and "Africa's garden of Eden," Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to the "big 5" game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), as well as various other species.
-
Day 10: Ngorongoro Crater – Return to Moshi/Arusha
After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, allowing you to observe diverse wildlife for over 7 hours. Explore the forested areas inhabited by monkeys and elephants, and watch for flamingos, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippos, lions, and elephants. Enjoy the wildlife viewing experience in Ngorongoro Crater before returning to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your journey home.
