Itinerary

1. Day 1: Tarangire National Park

   • This morning, after breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park and spend the afternoon exploring the park with game drives. The park is cut through by the Tarangire River, which proves a magnet for all wildlife during the long dry season when the surrounding area becomes completely parched. 

   • During the wet season, the wildlife is more scattered but still guarantee some sightings of Tarangire’s extensive elephant population. Large herds roam the riverbed whilst zebra, buffalo, gazelle, and wildebeest try to avoid the predatory advances of lion and leopard. There is also a remarkable profusion of birdlife as the Tarangire swamps are home to 550 bird varieties, including many rare species. 

   Overnight at Eileen's tree inn or similar.

2. Day 2: Serengeti National Park

   • After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park. 

   • Along the way, stop at the Olduvai Gorge. This is a steep-sided ravine in the heart of the Great Rift Valley and is famous for the variety of early hominid fossils that have been found here.

   • There is an excellent museum here; it is very small but informative and well worth the stop. 

   Overnight at Katikati tented camp.

3. Day 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro

   • After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in Serengeti. 

   • After lunch, drive to Ngorongoro and spend overnight at Rhino Lodge.

4. Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

   • Early in the morning, drive to Ngorongoro crater.

   • Descend to the crater floor and be amazed by the sheer number and diversity of animals and birdlife. 

   • Spot safari while seated or standing in the pop-up safari vehicles, offering endless viewing opportunities. 

   • Spot any of the Big 5 or get a call over the radio that a lion is perched high atop a nearby rocky outcrop or a black rhino sighted nearby. Enjoy as the driver-guide leads the way to catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures before the moment passes. 

   • Excitement mounts again along the way, with possible sightings of perhaps a lioness and her cubs right next to the vehicle. The feeling of spotting wildlife is indescribable. 

   • Late afternoon, drive back to Arusha and transfer to the airport to catch the flight back home.
