Itinerary
-
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Hut
- The guide will pick you up from the hotel at 0900am after breakfast at Machame gate where you will have your registration and see your porters and cooker. You will start hiking through the rainforest, which is a dense forest. Here you will enjoy viewing different flora and fauna.
Half on the way you will have lunch and proceed to Machame camp where you will find the camp has already been set up by the crews.
At the camp, you need to sign in and wait for dinner before sleep.
-
Day 2: Machame Camp (9,840ft / 3,000m) to Shira Camp (12,600ft / 3,840m)
- This is the shortest day but steeper one. Wake up, get breakfast and start hiking for the second day. You will trek several uphills where there are several viewpoints from which you can see the plains and forests below Kibo peak and also Mount Meru, which is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania.
As you gain high altitude, notice changes in vegetation and the trees diminish in size, giving way to Kilimanjaro's famous high-altitude plants, Scenecio Kilimanjaro and Lobelia deckenii.
Have a hot lunch at the camp or lunch box. The trek takes only three hours, depending on the fitness or the weather of the day.
Get time to acclimatise and return to Shira Camp, where you will have dinner and relax for the rest of the day.
-
Day 3: Shira Camp (12,600ft / 3,840m) to Barranco Camp (12,960ft / 3,950m)
In the morning, have breakfast and get started hiking. We call it an acclimatisation day since we have to hike to the lava tower (14000ft/4640m) before beginning the descent to Barranco camp (12960ft/3950m) to camp and spend the night.
Enjoy Mount Kilimanjaro and Moshi town at Barranco camp, depending on the day's weather.
-
Day 4: Barranco Camp 12960ft/3950m to Barafu Camp 15100ft/4600m via Karanga Valley Camp
Wake up early in the morning, get breakfast, and start hiking, crossing Barranco Wall. It will take 45 minutes to one hour. At the top of the Barranco Wall, you may get a nice view of the mountain. You may also be interested to get some more pictures.
We proceed to Karanga camp, where we are going to get a hot lunch and continue to the base camp called Barafu Camp, the last camp before the summit.
Here, we will have an earlier dinner to get time to prepare for preparation of midnight hiking.
-
Day 6: Summit Day
- Wake up at 11:30 p.m. and get some light food before hiking to the summit.
We should start at 12:00 am, and it will take 5 hours to reach Stella point 14000ft/ 5730m, which is at the rim of the crater.
From Stella point to UHURU Peak, the highest peak of Kilimanjaro mountain, it will take one-hour hiking through the crater's rim. We will be at the Summit at sunrise from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., where you will get time to enjoy and take pictures.
Afterwards, start your descent back to Barafu Camp to have lunch packing and keep descending to Mweka camp, where you will have dinner and rest.
-
Day 6: Mweka Camp (10,170ft / 3,100m/) to Mweka Gate (4,920ft / 1500m/)
After camping and overnight at Mweka camp, you will descend to Mweka gate, crossing the rainforest. Watch your steps because the trail can be slippery.
Our vehicles will be waiting at the lower station of Mweka Gate to take you back to the hotel, where you can get a hot shower and small part-time with your crews and guides.
