Itinerary
-
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi and Night Game Drive
- Our driver will come to pick you up at your hotel in Dar es Salaam at around 5:30 am for your transfer to Mikumi National Park which will take about 5 to 6 hours. At Morogoro, you will get a hot launch. Upon arrival in Mikumi, you will rest at the hotel Camp Bastian for a few hours and prepare for a night game drive from 7:30 to 10:30 PM.
- A night game drive is an adventurous activity in the evening in an open Jeep with a spotlight for a better view. A professional guide and an armed ranger will protect you from any danger. During the night game drive, you will be able to see the nocturnal and rarely seen animals such as civets, leopards, aardvarks, porcupines, genets, mongooses, bush pigs, lions, spotted hyenas, and other animals that are hidden during the day game drive. You can also spot hippos grazing on the ground.
-
Day 2: Full day game drive to Mikumi
- Breakfast in the camp departs for a full-day game drive. Mikumi national park offers an amazing game viewing experience which starts just a few minutes from the park entrance gate. Although Mikumi is rich in varied species of animals and birds, it receives fewer visitors annually than its counterpart, northern Tanzania game parks. While on the game drive, you can see animals such as lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, elephants, zebras, and various antelope species.
- Mikumi has been recorded to have over 400 species of birds. The common birds of Mikumi include Marabou stork, Red-billed oxpeckers, Black-bellied bustard, Francolin, Cattle egret, Guinea-fowls, Hornbill and Malachite Kingfisher. There are also colourful birds, such as the Yellow-throated long claws, the Lilac-breasted roller and the Bateleur eagle.
- You will continue with the game drive until late afternoon when you will drive to Mikumi Wildlife Camp for dinner and overnight.
-
Day 3: Hike in Udzungwa's Sanje Waterfalls
- After breakfast, you will drive to Udzungwa National Park with packed lunch boxes, which is just 1.5 hours from Mikumi. On arrival, you will enter Udzungwa National Park with a ranger.
- You will hike in the Udzungwa Mountains, visit the waterfalls and swim in the cool water below the waterfalls. In the late afternoon, you will walk back to Udzungwa Forest Lodge for overnight.
-
Day 4: Leisurely breakfast and driving back to Dar Es Salaam
- Today, after a leisurely breakfast in the camp, you will pack your luggage and depart for Dar es Salaam. At Dar es Salaam, we will drop you off at the airport or your hotel.
