Itinerary

1. DAY TRIP TO RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

   Morning:

   • Early Morning Pickup: Start your day early with a pickup from your hotel or designated meeting point in Iringa (or another nearby town). The drive to the park typically takes about 2:30hours, depending on road conditions. Enjoy the scenic drive through the Tanzanian countryside.
   • Arrival at Ruaha National Park: Once you reach the park entrance, you'll be welcomed by your safari guide and given a brief overview of the park, safety guidelines, and what to expect throughout the day.
   • Game Drive (3-4 hours): Begin your first game drive of the day. Head to areas with higher chances of wildlife sightings, such as near the Great Ruaha River. You may encounter large herds of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and zebras. Look for predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The early morning is ideal for spotting predators that are still active before the heat of the day sets in.

   Late Morning:

   • Stop for Scenic Views and Photography: Take a short break at a scenic spot within the park. The Great Ruaha River offers stunning views, and this is a good time to stop for photos of the river, surrounding hills, and wildlife.
   • Continue Game Drive: As you continue exploring, the guide will help you spot various wildlife, including antelopes and smaller species that you might otherwise miss. This is also an excellent time for birdwatching, as many species are active during the morning hours.

   Midday:

   • Bush Picnic or Lunch at Lodge: Depending on your choice of tour or time constraints, you can either have a bush picnic or head back to a lodge within or near the park for lunch. Many safari operators arrange a packed lunch, which you can enjoy in the wild, surrounded by the beauty of nature. If you're at a lodge, you’ll enjoy a buffet or a delicious sit-down meal.

   Afternoon:

   • Afternoon Game Drive (2-3 hours): After lunch, head out for your second game drive of the day. This afternoon drive may offer a chance to spot nocturnal animals that begin their day as the sun begins to set. If you're lucky, you may see big cats like lions and leopards preparing to hunt.
   • Visit to the Great Ruaha River: If time allows, make your way to the Great Ruaha River for a final wildlife encounter. The river attracts numerous animals, especially in the dry season, and you might catch sight of elephants, giraffes, and antelopes coming to drink.

   Late evening:

   • Tea or Refreshments: Before heading out of the park, enjoy a light refreshment or tea at a scenic viewpoint. Take in the stunning landscapes and reflect on the day's safari.
   • Depart for Return Journey: After a full day of exploration, start your drive back to Iringa or your departure point. The return journey will take 2:30hours depending on the route.
