Itinerary

1. Day1: Chagga Village Life, Coffee, and Waterfalls

   Morning (Chagga Village Immersion):

   • Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel in Moshi. You'll journey to a traditional Chagga village on Kilimanjaro's verdant slopes.
   • Upon arrival, the villagers will warmly welcome you and invite you to participate in their daily routines. This might involve helping with farm work, learning traditional crafts, or observing how they prepare meals.
   • You'll visit a traditional Chagga home, gaining insights into their architectural style and the significance of various spaces within the dwelling.
   • Your guide will share stories about Chagga customs, social structures, and the importance of family and community.

   Midday (Coffee Experience):

   • The afternoon is dedicated to the renowned Chagga coffee experience. You'll learn about the entire coffee-making process, from the cultivation of the beans to the final cup.
   • You'll have the opportunity to participate in harvesting ripe coffee cherries, followed by the traditional methods of drying, roasting, and grinding the beans.
   • The highlight of this experience is tasting freshly brewed Chagga coffee and savouring its rich aroma and flavour.
   • Lunch will be provided and will be a traditional Chagga meal.

   Afternoon (Materuni Waterfalls):

   • After lunch, you'll take a scenic hike to the Materuni Waterfalls. The trail winds through lush vegetation and offers breathtaking views of the Kilimanjaro foothills.
   • Upon reaching the waterfalls, you'll be mesmerised by their cascading beauty. You can take a refreshing dip in the cool, clear pool at the base of the falls.
   • You will learn about local flora and fauna from your guide.

   Evening:

   • Return to your hotel in Moshi, reflecting on the day's cultural and natural wonders.

2. Day 2: Old Moshi History and Cultural Performances

   Morning (Old Moshi Historical Exploration):

   • Your second day begins with a journey to Old Moshi, the historical capital of the Chagga people.
   • You'll explore significant historical sites, learning about the legacy of figures like Mangi Meli, a prominent Chagga leader who resisted colonial rule.
   • You'll visit historical buildings and artifacts, gaining a deeper understanding of the Chagga's past and their interactions with the colonial powers.
   • Your guide will explain the importance of the old court, and other historical locations.

   Midday (Traditional Chagga Cuisine):

   • A traditional Chagga lunch will be served, offering a delectable array of local dishes. You'll have the opportunity to sample staples like "ndizi nyama" (banana and meat stew) and other culinary delights.
   • You'll also learn about the process of making "mbege," a traditional banana beer, and perhaps have a chance to taste it.

   Afternoon (Cultural Performances):

   • The afternoon is dedicated to experiencing the vibrant cultural expressions of the Chagga people.
   • You'll be treated to traditional dances and songs, performed by local groups. These performances showcase the Chagga's rich artistic heritage and their deep connection to their traditions.
   • You will be able to join in the dancing.

   Evening:

   • Return to your hotel in Moshi, concluding your enriching 2-day cultural tour.
