Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut

   • Head to Arusha National Park. Drive a bit further to reach the Momella Gate (1500 m), where the climb begins.

   • Walk through the grassy plains to see occasional views of Mount Kilimanjaro to your right.

   • After a few hours of trekking, you will reach the first campsite, Miriakamba Hut (2500 m). Here you will settle in a dormitory-style room, rest for the day.

   Trekking Time: 4-5 hours | Distance: 10 km | Altitude Gain: 1000 m.

2. Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

   • Wake up early in the morning for breakfast and begin your trek into fine forests as you head to the Saddle Hut (3500 m), where you will spend the evening and rest.

   • In the afternoon, relax in the hut or go on a one-hour trek to Little Meru (3801 m), where you will see the beautiful views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the sunset.

   Trekking Time: 3-4 hours | Distance: 8 km | Altitude Gain: 1000 m

3. Day 3: Trek to the summit

   • Wake up at 1:00 AM in the mid-night, have breakfast and start to ascend towards the summit. 

   • Upon arrival at the Rhino point (3800 m), the trek becomes more difficult as you encounter rocky ground and narrow ridges.

   • You will reach the summit, Socialist Peak (4562 m), around 6 AM. See the sunrise and take pictures.

   Trekking Time: 4-6 hours | Distance: 5 km | Altitude Gain: 1062 m

   • Descend to Miriakamba hut via saddle(where you will relax for one hour and get breakfast)

   Dinner and overnight stay at Miriakamba hut.  

   Trekking Time: 5-7 hours | Distance: 13 km | Altitude Loss: 2062 m

4. Day 3: Depart to Arusha

   • Descend through grassy plains, where you have a high chance of spotting wildlife such as Colobus monkeys, buffaloes, giraffe, warthog, hippos, zebras, elephants and other animals 

   • Arrive at the park gate, get the certificate of completion and drive back to your hotel in Arusha 

   Trekking Time: 2-3 hours | Distance: 10 km | Altitude Loss: 1000 m
