Itinerary

1. Day 1- Tunis Arrival

   • Upon your arrival in Tunis, you will be met at the airport. We will take you to Sidi Bou Said for lunch or dinner, depending on the arrival time. You will discover the Moorish village and enjoy a mint tea in one of the old Moorish cafes. 
   • We'll continue to the hotel for an overnight stay. (L/D)

2. Day 2- Tunis - Testour

   • Early this morning, we will depart Tunis for the northwest part of the country, with our first destination being Bulla Regia, this well-preserved site has numerous examples of underground architecture, as well as well-preserved mosaics in situ. 
   • After lunch in Teboursouk, we’ll explore Dougga, the best preserved and largest Roman site in Tunisia. 
   • Stopping on the way in Testour, the first Moorish town with a short visit. 

   Return to the hotel for an overnight stay. (B,L)

3. Day 3- Kairouan - Tozeur

   • This morning, we will head south to Kairouan. The city was founded during early Islamic times, with its Great Mosque, dating from the 7th century, reputed to be the oldest mosque in Africa. Kairouan’s location along the caravan routes also provided a base for a flourishing crafts industry, it is the capital of knotted carpets and Berber rugs. 
   • We will head after lunch southwest, with an early evening arrival in Tozeur.

   Overnight in Tozeur. (B,L,D)

4. Day 4- Tozeur

   • This morning, we will explore the surroundings of Tozeur. Some walking, hiking and climbing during the visit of the “ Limes Tripolitanus “name given to 3 old Berber villages very known for their beautiful sceneries and landscapes. 
   • In the afternoon, drive back to Tozeur to discover its oasis and learn about it. 

   Overnight in the same hotel. (B,D)

5. Day 5- Sahara Desert

   • Today, l will take you on a morning walk through Tozeur’s old town providing an opportunity to learn about this region’s unique architectural style and interact with locals.  
   • We will depart Tozeur going east via the Chott-el-Jerid, Tunisia‘s Salt Lake and then a stop in Douz, a small town that appears to be plopped down amidst the dunes. Douz is often a jumping-off point for desert treks going further south. 
   • We will change our car by a 4x4 vehicle for a 3-hour drive across the sandy desert “Sahara”. 

   Overnight in a desert camp to explore the beautiful sand dunes with an amazing sunset or/and sunrise. (B,L,D,)

6. Day 6- Duoz - Djerba

   • After breakfast, we will drive back to Douz and after 2 hours' drive across the desert, we arrive at the region of Matmata. 
   • We will discover a small Berber village named Tamezret known for the caves where still live some families. 
   • After lunch, we will drive half hour later to be in a region famous for the troglodyte dwellings. Its exotic settings provided one of the film locations for the movie, Star Wars. 
   • We will have an opportunity to explore one of these dwellings and the region and we continue to the coast of the island of Djerba. 

   Dinner and overnight in Djerba. (B,D)

7. Day 7- Jerba

   • We will start the day with an island tour of Jerba. The island has a special character. Included in your tour of the island is the Ghriba synagogue, one of the numerous synagogues on the island where the Jewish community dates itself to over 2,000 years. Our island tour eventually brings us to Houmt Souk, Jerba’s main market town which is the Mediterranean in feel, small in scale and a great place for those who had been waiting to go shopping. 
   • The remainder of the afternoon is unstructured. Dinner and Overnight in the same hotel. (B,D)

8. Day 8- Sousse

   • Early this morning, we will take a ferry boat from Jerba to the mainland or use the Roman causeway to begin driving up the coast with a short break in Gabe's spice market. 
   • Late lunch in El Jem, known in Roman times as Thysdrus and noted for its amphitheatre the largest Roman monument in all Africa which is similar to the colosseum of Rome but better preserved. 
   • Following our exploration of El Jem and the nearby museum, we will drive northeast to Sousse. Dinner and overnight in Sousse. (B,L,D)

9. Day 9- Sousse - Tunis

   • This morning we will visit the historic section of Sousse; the Arab ribat, the Medina and the archaeological museum housing a great collection of artefacts.
   • After Lunch in Sousse, we’ll return to Tunis to visit the Medina, a great old town where you’ll discover the colourful souks and the narrow alleys bordered by many shops and artisans. 

   Overnight in Tunis. (B,L)

10. Day 10- Tunis

    • This morning, we will start our day with a visit to the archaeological site of Carthage and learn about its history by visiting its ancient ruins. 
    • In the afternoon, we will discover the Grand Synagogue, the biggest in Tunisia and the Avenue Habib Bourguiba. 
    • By the evening, Rendez-Vous at your hotel for your farewell dinner.
