Itinerary

1. Mbwe Hike & Ruhondo boat cruise

   Morning:

   • Start the day early at 8:00 AM from your accommodation near Ruhondo Lake.
   • Meet with your local guide and receive a briefing about the hike and safety precautions. Our guide will provide you with interesting information about the history and significance of the area and answer any questions you may have. 

   Hiking:

   • Begin the Mbwe hike, following a scenic trail that winds through the picturesque landscapes surrounding Ruhondo Lake. (Mt. Mbwe is 2600 meters above sea level.)
   • Trek through lush forests and green farms, and enjoy the serene beauty of the area, including the magnificent 5 Volcanoes and the stunning views of the Twin Lakes (Burera and Ruhondo).
   • Take breaks to rest, hydrate, and appreciate the natural surroundings.
   • Reach the summit of Mbwe, where you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Ruhondo Lake and the surrounding hills. Have your packed lunch and prepare yourself to make the descent.

   Boat Tour:

   • Descend from the summit and board a comfortable boat waiting at the lake's shore.
   • Embark on a relaxing boat tour of Ruhondo Lake, known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery.
   • Cruise along the lake, taking in the tranquil atmosphere and admiring the surrounding hills and islands.
   • Listen to fascinating facts and stories about the lake's history and significance from your knowledgeable boat guide.
   • Enjoy your snacks or cold drinks onboard while soaking up the peaceful ambience.
   • Continue the boat tour, exploring different lake areas and discovering hidden coves and bays.
   • Make stops at scenic spots on the Islands, where you can take photos or relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.
   • Learn about the local culture and traditions from your guide, who can share insights into the communities near the lake.
   • Return to the lodge in the early afternoon, where you'll disembark.
   • Bid farewell to the boat crew and guide.
