Description
Embark on a journey from Nis to the Devils Town to see Hell’s Ditch, Devil’s Ditch, and Red spring, and continue to Prolom to visit Lazarica Church. Pay a visit to the monastery dedicated to the Rising of The Holy Mother of God in Sukovo before exploring the town of Nis on foot.
Itinerary

Day 1: Nis/Prokuplje, Kursumlija/ Devils Town/Nis
- Departure from Nis towards west, on the road going to Pristina.
- Pass by Merosina – the cherry tree town, Prokuplje – the town of sweats and chocolate, Kursumlija.
- Arrive at the Devils town, a unique monument of nature that will ultimately occupy your attention and senses—visiting the entire site: Hell's Ditch, Devil's Ditch, Red spring – spring of a highly mineral (iron) water, Sass's mines (XIII cent), the church of St. Petka.
- Enjoy free time for photos, souvenirs and a short break.
- Continue towards the spa of Prolom.
- Arrive at the spot on the slopes of mountain Sokolovica (600 m.s.l).
- Visit on foot the Lazarica church (1890), the only wooden church in this part of Serbia. According to the legend, a part of King Lazar's army was given a sacrament right before the historic Kosovo battle. As a unique rarity of this church, there stands six curved plum trees in the front yard.
- Lunch break in Etno restaurant. Right along the river of Prolom, down by the hitchhiking tracks, stands Etno restaurant, with a superb collection of old Serbian houses and domestic items and excellent food offered: beef and lamb (traditionally made), "rednica" pie, cabbage, beans, homemade bread, cheese and cookies.
- Short break for individual activities.
- Afternoon departure from the spa towards the city of Nis.

Day 2: Nis/Poganovo, Sukovo/Pirot/ Sicevo Gorge/ The Spa Of Nis
- Depart from Nis to the east, on the international road E80 (Nis – Sofia – Istanbul), via Bela Palanka and Pirot, right to the monastery of St. Jovan Bogoslov in village Poganovo. The monastery is one of the oldest and, at the same time, one of the most beautiful in this part of Serbia. It is placed in a beautiful location, where river Jerma spread its coasts, surrounded by mountain slopes and edges of the gorge. It was built in the late XIV cent; the fresco was painted one century later.
- Short coffee break in the nearby restaurant, former train station of the closed coal mine railway.
- Continue towards the monastery dedicated to the Rising of The Holy Mother of God in the village of Sukovo (XVII cent)
- Drive toward Pirot.
- Arrive at Pirot and visit the Etno museum of the river Nisava valley. The museum's main building was often used as a sound stage for movie shooting. Also, a shorter stop by the fortress of Pirot, "Pirotsko kalè."
- Continue west along the Nisava river valley. Enjoy the panoramic view at one of the most beautiful gorges in southeast Europe, immense natural heritage protected by the law, the third oldest hydropower plant in Serbia, and wineries of the village of Sicevo.
- Arrive at the spa of Nis.
- Take a walking tour of King's villa, the central spa's park, and visit the most significant spring of the spa (36°C/96.8°F), the big terrace of the hotel Radon, "spa's slopes", and listen to the story about the spa's villas, tramps and "Orient Express train".
- Return to the city.
