Day 01

Fátima Sanctuary and Pilgrimage Sites

One of the best-known pilgrimage destinations in Europe, Fátima was visited by 5 million people in 2022. The sanctuary is a special place where Our Lady appeared in 1917 to three little shepherds, bringing a very important message. Here, visitors have time to pray, light a candle, and better understand this spiritual and peaceful shrine.

Highlights

Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima Basilica, the tombs of the Little Shepherds Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia, the Chapel of the Apparitions, Holy Trinity Basilica, the temporary museum, the place where the Virgin and the Angel appeared, and the Little Shepherds' house.

Day 02

Leiria Castle and Historic City Centre

A district capital very well located between the north and south of the country, Leiria grew between the castle and the River Lis. The castle remains a monumental symbol of the city's history.

Several kings and queens passed through here. The monarch who spent the longest time in Leiria was King D. Dinis with his wife, Queen Elizabeth, one of the recipients of the Miracle of the Roses.

The main square is named after Francisco Rodrigues Lobo, a notable local sixteenth-century poet, in the heart of Leiria. It is a fantastic place for socialising, eating, and doing some shopping.

Highlights

Castle, Cathedral, Cultural Interpretation Center, main square, Luís Camões Park, and the Lis River.

3
Day 03

Batalha Monastery and Royal Pantheon

The Dominican Monastery of Saint Mary of Victory is an extraordinary Gothic building, commissioned by King John I in the 14th century, whose tomb is in the Royal Pantheon.

It is a symbol of Portugal's national pride and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It was built to celebrate the 1385 battle in which Portugal overcame the Castilians at the Battle of Aljubarrota.

Highlights

Manueline Cloister, a Gothic church, King John I Pantheon, and the Unfinished Chapels.

Day 04

Alcobaça Monastery and Convent Sweets

With a fantastic history, this 9-century-old monastery is a UNESCO site because of its size, the purity of its architectural style, the beauty of its materials, and its status as an exemplary masterpiece of Gothic architecture in Portugal.

Highlights

The Monastery, Cistercian Abbey, and fantastic patisseries with old recipes from the Cistercian monks - convent sweets.

5
Day 05

Nazaré Clifftop Views and Giant Waves

Famous since the 12th century because of the miracle of the Virgin Mary, Nazaré is an ancient fishing village where you can buy dry fish on the beach and see the 'seven skirts' ladies. The long sandy beach and the amazing 110-metre-high cliff offer extraordinary views over the Atlantic Ocean. Today, it is famous all over the world for its giant waves. In 2013, the American surfer McNamara set a world record here by surfing a wave of about 30 metres in height.

Highlights

Fort of Saint Michael Archangel, Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, funicular, shops, and seafood restaurants.

6
Day 06

Óbidos Walled Town and Ginjinha

A historic walled town, Óbidos is one of Portugal's most romantic villages. Since the 13th century, it has been the Queen's wedding present.

Discover adorable whitewashed homes decorated in yellow or blue, bougainvillea trees, cafés, shops, fabulous ceramic stores with artisan-quality goods, and stands selling sweet cherry liquor, ginjinha.

Highlights

Town Gate, main street, Saint Mary Church, bookstores, castle, walls, shops and gastronomy, and the famous sweet cherry liquor.

7
Day 07

Tomar Templar Heritage and UNESCO Convent

A historical and very important city in the Middle Ages, Tomar was one of the most influential cities in the Iberian Peninsula. It was the headquarters of the religious and military order of the Knights Templar, founded by Gualdim Pais, the Grand Master, in the 12th century, with the blessing of Portugal's first king, D. Afonso Henriques. This magnificent monument is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
