Description
Nestled along the Bug River, just 100 kilometres from Warsaw, lies the tranquil village of Treblinka. This seemingly idyllic locale bears a haunting past. During World War II, Treblinka served as a Nazi extermination camp from 1942 to 1943, claiming the lives of over 800,000 individuals- making it second only to Auschwitz Birkenau in terms of victims.
Today, it's hard to imagine Treblinka's grim history. The Nazis obliterated the camp's structures and concealed their crimes by replanting the area with lupine. Symbolism pervades this place, serving as a powerful testament to one of humanity's darkest moments. The Treblinka Tour offers a moving experience, including a visit to an exhibition, the memorial with its Wailing Wall and symbolic grave markers, the gravel quarries, Treblinka I (a former penal labour camp), and the execution site- a journey that pays homage to history's victims.
