The Eagles' Nests Trail through Castles and Upland Landscapes
The Trail of the Eagles' Nests is a tourist route running through the Małopolskie and Śląskie Voivodeships. It starts in Krakow, ends in Częstochowa, and spans 164 kilometres. The route takes its name from the ruins of castles and strongholds along the way, known as 'Eagles' Nests' because they stand on rocks, some of them as high as 30 metres.
The trip follows the area closest to Krakow. Along the way, you will see, among other sights, the castle in Korzkiew and pass through a fragment of the picturesque Ojców National Park. The castle in Pieskowa Skała and the nearby Hercules Club provide unforgettable experiences. You will visit the courtyard and the observation tower of the castle itself.
The next sites visited are the ruins of Rabsztyn and Ogrodzieniec. In both cases, the ruins have been adapted for tourism. The monumentality of the buildings and the views from the towers create extraordinary impressions. The vast ruins of the castle in Ogrodzieniec have recently gained popularity thanks to the series 'The Witcher'. On the way to the magnificent castle in Ogrodzieniec, an undeniable attraction is a stop at the viewpoint next to the only desert in Europe - the Błędowska Desert. The last two sites are located next to each other: the castles in Mirów and Bobolice, with the latter rebuilt in recent years and opened to the public.
