Itinerary
-
Day 1: Karachi - Lahore – Kallar Kahar
Take a morning flight to Lahore and drive to the Salt Range on the motorway. This range extends along the south of the Pothohar Plateau and the North of the Jhelum River. The Salt Range contains the great mines of Khewra, Kalabagh and Warcha, which yield vast supplies of salt.
Continue driving to these Salt mines, which are the biggest mines in the world, area-wise (90-minutes).
Have lunch at the mines followed by a drive to Ketas, an important Hindu pilgrim centre before the partition with many shrines and temples dating from the 8th to 10th century.
Proceed to Kallar Kahar Lake, which is the most popular lake in this mountain area among the tourists. First Mughal emperor Babar stayed here in 1519 during his run to conquer Bhaira. He cultivated some fruit gardens and made a historic throne for himself.
Hike up the nearby hill to visit the historic shrine of a Muslim Sufi saint and also for the beautiful views of the area. The valleys on both sides of the shrine here are known as the Peacock valley. In the evening, we can see some wild peacocks in the surroundings of the shrine.
Overnight camping near the Kallar Kahar Lake.
-
Day 2: Kallar Kahar – Uchhali Lake
Drive to Khabeki lake for bird watching.
Proceed to Sodi for rock climbing and before rock climbing, do a short trek of one hour to reach the rocks.
Have lunch atop the rocks and continue with a drive to Uchhali Lake - the biggest lake in the Salt Range. Every year thousands of birds migrate here from Siberia, so do not forget to bring good binoculars.
Overnight camp stay at Uchali Lake under the Sakeaser top.
-
Day 3: Uchhali – Lahore
Drive to the most beautiful lake in the area- Jhalar Lake.
Take a short trek to reach the lake and have lunch.
Continue back to the motorway and then to Lahore. If time permits, visit the Malot temple.
20:00 Hours: Return to Lahore for a return flight to Karachi.
