Description
Explore the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve in Peru’s northern Loreto region. Entering the reserve where the Amazon river is born and travelling up the Marañor river, see an untouched part of the Amazon Rainforest. Spot dolphins in freshwater, caimans at night, and enjoy trekking in the rainforest.
Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: Iquitos to San Martin de Tipishca
- 3:00 pm: Transfer by car from Iquitos to Nauta city (2 hr).
Accommodation for a quick overnight
- At 3:00 am, depart from Nauta up the Marañon River (6 hr) approx to Puerto Prado Village.
- Navigate with a topical Peke Peke motorboat to the entrance of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (1 hr) boat ride approximately.
- Arrive at San Martin de Tipishca, an indigenous community.
Accommodation, Lunch
- In the afternoon, observe dolphins at the mouth of the Samiria River.
- In the evening, have dinner and go for a night excursion by boat to look for caimans.

Day 3: Wildlife and Bird Watching
- 6:00 am: Enjoy bird watching along Tipishca Lake.
- 9:00 am: Explore the Samiria location and look for wildlife, camp and jungle exploring.

Day 4: Wildlife and Bird Watching - Departure
- 6:00 am: Enjoy birdwatching as you look for parrots, macaws, egrets, etc.
- 9:00 am: Full piranha fishing.
- 3:00 pm: Explore the lakes and sightsee. Look for jaguars, capybaras, river otters, etc.
- 7:30 pm: Go for a night walk and look for insects, mammals, etc.
- Depart from the Samiria to Nauta city (7 hr) boat trip.
- Arrive at Nauta city at 10 am.
- Transfer from Nauta to Iquitos (2 hr) ride.
