Description
During this 4-day, 3-night rainforest camping tour at the Yanayacu tributary, our experienced Iquitos jungle guides will take you deep into the heart of the largest and most diverse natural area in the world. This adventure includes 1 night of camping at "Mirador Palo Alto," a three-story observation tower offering a stunning birds-eye view of the lowland jungle. You will also experience some of our most popular activities, including a thrilling night-time caiman excursion, birdwatching, piranha fishing, rainforest hikes, visits to native Amazonian tribes, canoe rides, and opportunities to view the majestic pink river dolphins, and much more!
Itinerary

Day 1
Morning departure from Iquitos City by car to arrive at the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Nanay River meets the Amazon River. From there, we will travel by boat downriver for about 70 km (approximately 2 hours). Along the way, you’ll have a great chance of spotting wildlife like caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora and fauna along the riverbanks.
Our first stop will be Monkey Island, where you will get a unique opportunity to observe and interact with a variety of monkeys in their natural habitat, including sloths, Goeldi’s monkeys, Tamarin monkeys, Capuchin monkeys, Yellow-Handed Titi monkeys, Masked Titi monkeys, Woolly monkeys, Squirrel monkeys, Spider monkeys, and more! You will also have the chance to hold large Anacondas, Boas, and interact with the rare Amazonian mata-mata turtle. The island is also home to alligators, turtles, toucans, macaws, and parrots.
We will then continue our journey to the Yanayacu tributary, where we will set up camp. In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy a dolphin-watching session with the possibility of spotting the pink freshwater dolphins. If we’re lucky, we may even swim with them in the river.
At night, we will embark on a nocturnal nature hike, giving us the opportunity to see lizards, snakes, spiders, and possibly monkeys.

Day 2
We’ll wake up early to see the sunrise over the Yanayacu tributary, followed by a morning animal observation excursion by boat to spot various types of Amazon wildlife.
In the afternoon, we will go on a fishing excursion where you’ll have the opportunity to catch piranhas, catfish, and other species of fish.
Later, we’ll see the impressive Victoria Regia, the largest freshwater aquatic plant in the world. After sunset, we’ll head out on a canoe excursion to spot caimans. You’ll even have the chance to hold, touch, and take photos with the caimans.

Day 3
In the morning, we’ll embark on a jungle hike (30-45 minutes) to the "Palo Alto Mirador." This unique lookout point features three observation levels at 5, 10, and 15 meters above the ground, offering stunning birds-eye views of the lowland Peruvian Amazon. Here, you’ll have an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife in their natural habitat.
During the day, we’ll explore the area with activities like hiking, canoeing in the lagoon, and fishing (depending on the group’s preference).
At night, we’ll take a nocturnal nature walk to observe species like reptiles, spiders, and monkeys.
Overnight camping on the top observation deck of Palo Alto (in tents or hammocks).

Day 4
We’ll start the day with an early morning jungle hike, offering the opportunity to observe a variety of monkeys, birds, and other wildlife. We’ll also learn about the diverse plant life of the Amazon.
Afterward, we’ll pack up and return to Iquitos. On the way back, we will visit a local indigenous tribe to learn about their history, customs, and traditions.
Transfer to the airport or hotel in Iquitos to conclude the tour.
